Artist Statement
I care about deconstructing things: religion, barres, catechisms, etc.. I flip tables upside down and stand on them, roll on them, slide on them. I love a Giordano jazz dance fantasy and will always question how or if it's trapped me. I’ll always throw in a big jump. I’ll always roll on the floor. Maybe both at the same time. I dance to the sounds and syllables of words when words out loud aren’t working. I piece together sentences, and rewrite prayers. I move and make to explore my queerness and femininity or what I’ve been told they should be. Just because the audience can’t see something doesn’t mean it's not important. I keep pieces of my work to myself–for myself– you won’t know what you don’t know. I grapple with my own sense of virtuosity, and throw myself against the floor hoping it will tell me something about myself or God or my Grandmother.
